Residential Courses - Introduction
The starting point for the residential courses is working with the knowledge that most people today lead far more stressful lives than ever before. Consequently, the courses are structured to bring about opportunities for real rest alongside the healing benefit of the yoga itself. Consequently a good space in the day is left for walking, reading, sleeping or simply relaxing. Stopping for long enough to do this can be in itself quite a challenge for some people!
Teaching
Over the years Geoff has developed a teaching style that will accommodate all levels of ability. His teaching is based on the broad aims of the traditional Eight Limbs of Yoga as defined by the greatest of the Indian sages, Patanjali. The work incorporates all aspects of yoga from postures, breathing to meditation and includes the basic underlying philosophy of yoga.
Much of this knowledge can be presented and experienced through the work and action of the postures. Consequently, the work is essentially practical and he aims to make the yoga relevant to the demands and stress of today's Western lifestyle.
Practising the postures focuses attention on the present moment and, with this practise, deep levels of relaxation in both mind and body can be experienced. Working with the postures also helps move people beyond their own self-defining limits bringing about positive mental attitudes.
Yoga Schedule
On residential courses an early morning session is scheduled for around 7.45 a.m. and will combine Pranayama breathing practise and general posture work. At 10.00 a.m. a large breakfast is provided leaving the majority of the day clear for other activities. These will include some organised excursions such as the Twelve Island sailing day in Turkey. There is a further yoga session from 6.00 to 7.30 p.m. which generally include the more relaxed stretching postures.
