Adrenal exhaustion

Continual stress will lead to a situation where the adrenal glands, which respond to the fight/flight response, become exhausted. At this point the person may experience mood swings, food sensitivity reactions, low blood sugar patterns etc.

If we are passing through a period in our lives which is stressful (and will all will) then supporting the adrenal system is good practise. Reducing the stress on the adrenals by cutting back on caffeine (tea, coffee, chocolate, cola, cocoa) and cigarette consumption is important.

Learning stress reducing techniques like simple meditation and relaxation is also helpful. Using nutritional supplements will also help. These will be typically Zinc, Vit. C, Vit. B complex and a herbal formulae which will include Ginseng, Gurana, Licorice etc.

Acupuncture can also be helpful in restoring adrenal balance.
