But

People give away how they feel about themselves often by very simple language patterns. The word 'but' is one good example.

"I'm usually a confident person but I'm not at the moment." is essentially saying that I don't believe I am a confident person. If you substitute 'and' in place of 'but' the emphasis will change too.

"I am a confident person and I'm taking some time out to build up my confidence further." says something very different.

See if you can spot how often you use 'but' and in what context. Change it to 'and' as a support for the direction in which you wish to go and how you want to achieve your goal of the moment.
