People who experience stress generally have too much going on in their lives. Sometimes this is impossible to avoid. Life can be a little like juggling plates in the air on the end of a stick. We manage four by dashing from one to the other. However, if a fifth is added then rather than poorly managing to keep them all in the air it is likely that the whole lot will collapse.
This is a typical feeling experienced by many people who suddenly were coping yesterday and with addition of one extra task suddenly can't manage at all. It is sometimes called burn out.
So, learn to respond early to the signs of overwhelm and reduce the number of plates in the air. You may feel yourself be indispensable to that local committee but you will be less than effective when unable to cope with anything. Unless we can effectively learn to cut down on pressure when it is necessary then the body will sometimes take over and force us to do it in another way. Don't wait for this to happen.
